Dedication to Mothers

A letter to immigrant, refugee, and diaspora mothers:

These words offer dedication to all mothers past, present, and future.

To the mothers that were forced to leave while seeking refuge from war.

To the mothers that lost family members and friends without closure.

To the mothers who could not escape.

To the mothers who do not know where their roots lie and where their lineage comes from.

To the mothers that replaced hopes and dreams with pursuit of safety,

for family members they had not yet met,

rekindling legacy with their deep knowing in the bones.

Dedicated to the mothers that know what resilience and true strength means.

In Sufi tradition there is a saying,

“When the heart grieves over what it has lost, the Spirit rejoices over what it has left.”

Sometimes the healing journey looks like grieving what was lost or not known, and remembering the love and perseverance that surrounds the immense changes.

To the mothers who choose to keep moving in resistance, and while knowing when to rest.

These words offer dedication to all mothers past, present, and future.
